Day 16#20 Greetings Cards. We both love India which is a good thing because we’ve been there four times already. We’ve back-packed around, travelling by train, bus, plane, car and even on a Royal Enfield motorbike. This photo of an Indian blue robin was taken in the remote area of Thattekad in Kerala. To be exact it was in the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Dr Ali is one of India’s leading ornithologists and we were lucky enough to be invited to meet him and spend a couple of very pleasant hours talking with him in his office. It had already been an eventful day. We had arrived late in the afternoon the day before, hot and dusty after a very long Indian bus journey and, following a cold shower, we had decided to go for a walk on our own in the jungle before dinner. During the night we heard a bit of a commotion and the following morning we learned that a rogue elephant had tragically trampled on a young farmer, killing him and seriously injuring his friend very close to where we had walked… It was a very sad time for the staff at the sanctuary and a day we will not forget in a hurry. This Indian blue robin photo still evokes strong emotions from that visit.
