Day 5#20 Staying in Ecuador and still in Mindo although not in our backpackers lodge garden but out in the jungle (part of the Reserva Mindo Lindo)…I spent hours trying to photograph hummingbirds… There were just so many of them flying around like crazy insects! Large ones with racquet tails, small ones, tiny ones and some with extra long bills. I took so many photographs where I struggled to get them in focus because of their lightening quick changes in flight and the branches, stems and even the lush foliage kept getting in the way…I didn’t get to see the sword billed hummingbird though, so there’s a reason to return eh? I also need more practice with these little beauties. This is the moment this female Green Crowned Brilliant actually landed to perch for a nano second. Once again it is ‘a bird on a stick’ but this simple photograph belies the huge amount of effort invested in actually capturing it.
